Answering to a challenge put forward by the collaborative space Dinamo10, Smart Value Consulting developed a creative workshop (Call to Action - Viana InspirAÇÃO), in order to identify and build collaborative actions to enhance the creative character of Viana do Castelo, based in citizenship dynamics.
The participants worked with the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® tool and developed, prototyped and co-created project ideas to implement in the city, highlighting its identity and fostering its creative economy.
Smart Value Consulting has designed, programmed and energized a set of Urban Intervention Labs, promoted by the Municipal Company PortoLazer. The Labs took place in the city of Porto, between May 20 and June 8, in the context of a cultural project (Locomotiva) that aimed to revitalize an urban area through cultural initiatives.
It was a pilot initiative, with an open and collaborative nature, aimed at thinking and co-creating projects and solutions to enhance and promote Porto as a Creative City.
It included five "thinking by doing" labs, each lasting two days, which focused on the following themes: Creative Citizens; Creative Entrepreneurs; Collaborative Economy; Urban Innovation Platforms; and Networking and Internationalization.
It involved 70 participants, representing 30 national and local organizations and entrepreneurs, which generated 57 project ideas.
A short documentary about the Labs can be seen here.
"From Planning as a Lab to Labs of Planning" was the theme that Paulo Alves addressed in the first session of the Conference "FUTURE CHALLENGES - Utopias and Possibilities", organized by CEGOT - Geography Studies and Regional Planning Centre (University of Porto).
During this presentation, some of the emerging trends regarding new approaches to territorial planning were explained, such as the Strategic Doing Process, as well as the adoption of innovative approaches from the entrepreneurial and organizational development fields (e.g. Lean Startups, Theory U and Service Design).
Several case studies and international best practices on Urban Innovation Labs were presented, in order to express how these types of experimentation spaces and dynamics work as new tools and approaches to territorial planning.
Smart Value Consulting attended the 2014 edition of Zinc Shower - The Meeting Show for the Cultural and Creative Industries, that took place between May 23 and 25, in Madrid.
During the ZinkTalk "Incubators: what can I get and what do they want from me", Paulo Alves had the chance to showcase the experience that Smart Value Consulting has been developing with INSERRALVES Creative Business Incubator in Porto (Portugal), as well as to highlight the key aspects concerning the support to entrepreneurship in the Creative Industries.
Zinc Shower is an event that constitutes a meeting point for the main agents of the Cultural and Creative Industries Ecosystem, where the Entrepreneurs have the main stage.
We took part in a service design workshop, in Madrid, developed by Designit, where we were able to learn, test and use several methodologies and tools to generate ideas and to develop insights concerning the design of new services and experiences.
The City of Bilbao hosted the Forum d'Avignon, between March 5th and 7th, an international meeting, where professionals of art, architecture, politics and entrepreneurship analyzed different aspects of “The city as cultural ecosystem”.
Some of the main conclusions highlight the importance of culture in the city as an indispensable economic catalyst for the promotion of tourism, as much as a key player in the forging of social links and a source of pride for locals. In times of crisis, culture takes a critical role is a relevant solution for local communities. Furthermore, the concepts of local culture came out on top as opposed to a focus on international style. Overall, it was advised that cities who wished to use culture as a means of differentiation should leave a certain margin for improvisation, taking care to avoid excessive rigidity; above all, confidence in the city itself emanating for the most part from the ability to rely on its citizens and artists.
